Ott Sets Overall Track Record On Day 1 At High Plains

BYERS, Colo. (July 2, 2011) - The first day of two SafeRacer SCCA National Series Races are in the books at High Plains Raceway near Byers, Colo., after five group races on Saturday. Steve Ott€™s record-setting run highlighted the day of racing when Ott, driving a 2011 Speads DSR machine in D Sports Racing, turned a lap of 1:39.367 at the 2.50-mile circuit. Ott€™s lap was the quickest lap ever turned in competition at High Plains Raceway, breaking the previous record held by Ken Petrie in a March IndyCar. Ott won the Group 4 race overall and in class. Robert Adams (CSR), Russ Lindeman (FM), John Brumder (FC), Tyler Hunter (FE), Edward Guenther (S2) and Mark Felson (FA) all earned class wins in Group 4. Group 1 was also comprised of open wheel cars, with Doug Stout taking the overall win in Formula F. C.J. McAbee (F5), Cliff White (SRF) and Bob Neumeister (FV) also took the class wins. Kent Prather just nipped Jon Goodale after a race-long battle for the overall win in Group 2 and in GT-Lite. Group polesitter Guy Ruse (EP), Jerry Oleson (HP), James Place (SSC) and Kyle Watkins (AS) also earned wins in the group. Tyler Vance took a Spec Miata win over Mark Franklin and Tyler Dahl in Group 3. Scott Bove (STO) and Jim Valdez (GT-3) battled for the overall win in Group 5 until the final lap, when Valdez spun and Bove took the checkers. Valdez held onto GT3 win, joined by Jason Ott (T2), Michael Pettiford (STU), and James Leithauser (T3). Sunday€™s races at High Plains Raceway is the final round of the BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour.
