TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 9, 2011) – For the third consecutive year, SCCA President & CEO Jeff Dahnert has announced that he will challenge runners to the “Beat the Boss” four-mile run around Road America in a charity event to raise money for the SCCA Foundation. The run will take place at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs on Wednesday, September 21. Over the past two seasons, the fun run has raised over $1700 for the SCCA Foundation, which supports the Tire Rack Street Survival teen safe driving program. Entry fees for the run are $25, with the entire amount raised going to the Foundation. Each participant will receive a “Beat The Boss” t-shirt to commemorate the run. Six competitors beat Dahnert’s time in 2010, but the door is open even more this season. “Like any racer, I have many reasons why I’m not prepared for the upcoming event,” Dahnert said. “However, in my case, none of them are legitimate. I began preparation for the Beat the Boss race exactly one month prior to its running. This will open the door for some people and completely knock it off its hinges for others. I may be getting a first hand view of the skills that our ES teams provide.” The event is designed to appeal to casual runners, walkers, or those who just want to see the historic circuit from inside the fence – including a half course that exits the track at Turn Five. “Whether you’re coming to win or set a personal best time, or just enjoy the company of fellow SCCA members, come participate,” Dahnert said. “We’d like to see as many people as we can come and support this cause.” And though the event is for fun, it’s also promoted some bragging rights – which come through in a rule change that seems specifically geared to a race winner. “New for this year, we’re requiring a penalty – announced at the event - for any runner who has spent the year training for ultra marathons at high altitude,” Dahnert said. Anyone who finishes the run ahead of Dahnert will receive a special prize commemorating the accomplishment. The 2011 SCCA National Championship Runoffs begins with qualifying Monday, Sept. 19 through Thursday, Sept. 22, followed by three full days of racing, Sept. 23-25 at Road America.
