ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (September 18, 2012) – Erik Skirmants was the week’s first winner at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, kicking off the week on Tuesday morning with the 4th Annual Beat The Boss run to benefit the SCCA Foundation.
Skirmants, the president of SCCA Enterprises, ran the 4-mile track in 26:27 (9.074 mph) to take the gold medal. Fourteen runners paid the $25 donation to support the SCCA Foundation’s programs, including the Tire Rack Street Survival program.
The gold medalist was followed across the finish line by Scott Hargrove and Rick Myers, who crossed in 27:08 (8.845 mph) and 27:38 (8.645 mph), respectively.
Jeanne Gregg was the first female finisher, crossing the stripe in 39:14. SCCA President Jeff Dahnert was a late scratch from the race, battling a running injury.
In addition to the runners, all of whom received a t-shirt and other prizes to commemorate the event, dozens more walked the track on the brisk Tuesday morning.
Shortly after the Beat The Boss run, the opening session for the 49th SCCA National Championship Runoffs took the green flag. Stuart Rettie had the honor of opening the week, driving his No. 21 Hillenburg Motorsports Formula Mazda onto the track for the first time.
