Provisional Poles Set On Friday At Road America

 Elkhart Lake, Wis. (June 14, 2013) – Provisional poles were set on Friday afternoon at Road America, where the first laps were turned at this year’s WeatherTech Chicago Region June Sprints. The June Sprints are Round Five, and for select classes also Round 6, of the Eastern Conference Majors Tour.

Friday afternoon’s qualifying 25-minute qualifying sessions, combined with a second session Saturday morning, will set the grid for the races on the 14-turn, four-mile circuit.

Group 1 (Spec Miata), Group 2 (C Sports Racing, D Sports Racing, Formula 1000, and Sports 2000), Group 3 (GT1, GT2, GT3, and Touring 1), and Group 4 (Spec Racer Ford) race on Saturday afternoon, and get a bonus race on Sunday afternoon.

Among the provisional pole sitters from Friday are a pair of local heroes and four additional Badger state residents.

Bart Wolf, of Elkhart Lake, set the fastest time in Sports 2000 with a lap of 2:18.724 in the No. 28 Goodyear/Lake Street Carbir CS2.8. Michael Mueller, of Plymouth, topped Formula 500 in his No. 24 MJ Mfg/Fibeco/Hoosier/HRP Red Devil/Rotax. Both should be contenders during their respective races.

Michael Varacins, of Burlington, Wis., was the quickest Formula Vee in the field. Varacins drove the No. 65 Spped Sport/Veetech/Hoosier Speed Sport AM-5 to the provisional pole. Oconomowac’s Jim Dentici, in GT-Lite, drove his No. 77 JDM Group/Raglin Racing Honda CRX to a lap of 2:35.454. Grafton resident Lawrence Loshak, racing in H Production, drove his No. 01 ETE Reman/RWM Auto/Hoosier Honda CRX to a lap of 2:42.430 for the class pole.

Denny Marklein, of Dodgeville, ended the day with a class pole in the No. 22 Marklein Auto Body/DJMSP Formula Enterprises machine. Marklein turned a fast lap of 2:15.910.

Qualifying continues at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday at Road America with all eight race groups. The first of four races will begin at 1:15 p.m. An autograph session will take place in victory circle at 12:30, prior to the first races.
