Jupiter, Fla. (January 10, 2014) – The grids have been set for Saturday in seven run groups despite heavy overnight rains with additional showers in the morning and afternoon, a wet to damp track most of the day, and the first time that the Eastern Conference Majors Tour has run at Palm Beach International Raceway.
More than an inch of rain had fallen on the area in the last 24 hours, adding some flooding to the surrounding swamp land. That precipitation didn’t adversely impact the race track or facilities, however – save for a debate in some sessions over whether to use rain tires or slicks.
Each of the seven race groups got a pair of 20 minute qualifying sessions on Friday. The quickest time of the day is used to set the grids for Saturday’s races; those sessions, plus a fast lap in Saturday’s race, will be used to grid Sunday’s races.
The U.S. Majors Tour events feature a pair of races each weekend. Saturday’s races are 30 minute, timed sprint races. Sunday’s races are 25 laps or 40 minutes, whichever comes first, and feature the victory laps and podium ceremonies.
Live timing and lap notes will be available on the computer during Saturday and Sunday’s races at www.scca.com/SCCALive. The live timing is available on mobile devices through the Race Monitor app, while the notes mirror those found on Twitter @SCCALive.
