Watkins Glen Streaming Video, Portland Finale On Tap

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (July 4, 2014) - This Independence Day weekend is full of important SCCA Majors action on both coasts, focusing on the BFGoodrich Tires Watkins Glen Super Tour in the Eastern Conference, and the finale for the Western Conference at Portland International Raceway.

One enhancement the BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour has seen over the final two events is the addition of streaming webcam video, and that will continue this weekend at Watkins Glen. The cameras give the “standing at the fence” feeling, and will be positioned around the track. Video can be found, along with the audio from the public address announcer, at SCCA.com/SCCALive for the races on Saturday and Sunday.

More information on the BFGoodrich Watkins Glen Super Tour, including a complete schedule with start times for Saturday and Sunday’s races, an entry list, and more can be found at SCCA.com/WGIMajors.

Portland features the final rounds of the season for the Western Conference championship races. All of the information from that event, including schedule and entry list, can be found at SCCA.com/PortlandMajors.

The season finale will, once and for all, decide any Western Conference Champions at Portland. Each driver can count their best eight finishes, but must complete half the race distance to count points… Kevin Smith is in control in American Sedan, leading Chris Qualls (not entered) by one. Aaron Bailey (down 31 points) needs some help to close the gap… Derrick Ambrose appears to have B-Spec wrapped up, with Michael Tsay (not entered) the only driver mathematically alive… Lance Spiering has already wrapped up the Formula 500 championship, but is searching for wins five and six on the season… The top four Formula 1000 contenders are on the entry list and still alive, with John Labrie up two on Randall Cook. Larry Vollum and Duane Eitel will need bad luck from the leaders to stay alive after Saturday… Michael Manning should hold his Formula Continental lead to take the championship… David Zurlinden can only replace a ninth and a fifth-place finish to add points, but none of his closest Formula F competitors are on the entry list… Doug Nelson leads James Malone 151-118 in Formula Mazda, but both have reached their maximum point events and will need to replace poor finishes to improve point totals… Jess Heitman trails Brian Linn by 15 in F Production, but without Linn on the entry list, needs a pair of finishes to take the title… Terran Swanson has clinched the Formula Vee crown already; but a perfect 200 points is within reach if Swanson can sweep the Portland weekend… Michael Von Quilich has the GT-2 title in hand already, and is racing purely for wins this weekend… Collin Jackson has 90 points in GT-3 and sits 3rd, but just he and Dave Humphrey (85 points) are on the class entry list. They need to make up 35 and 40 points, respectively, to pass Mike Henderson for the Championship lead… Chris Farrell is in the Prototype 1 driver’s seat for the weekend… With Spec Miata leaders Clement Lee and Elliott Skeer staying home this weekend, Steven Powers and Ken Sutherland need to make up 19 and 44 points, respectively. A deep field still makes that a challenge… Though Todd Harris is second, 13 points behind Mike Miserendino, he is actually in a better position at his home track. Both have eight finishes, but Harris’ has a zero-point 21st place finish, giving him one more full race to count… Thomas Lepper and Oscar Jackson, Jr., have a large point gap to close, but with few of the STL leaders in front of them, may battle each other for the Championship… The top 10 are still mathematically alive to catch Touring 1 leader Al Camano (116 points), who is not entered at Portland. Marc Hoover (98 points), Pratt Cole (76 points) or Ken Davis (67 points) will most likely settle the title hunt… Looking for a close battle? Scotty White and Tom Wickersham are dead even in Touring 3. They split at Auto Club and Thunder Hill, and each swept a weekend without the other. If they split again and finish first and second, the season will end with a tie.

All of the live timing options can be found from one common link from SCCA.com/SCCALive. Live timing on a mobile device or tablet can be found through the Race Monitor app.
