Kummer to Vacate Club Racing Post

TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 29, 2014) – Butch Kummer has announced that he will resign from the Club Racing Director position at Sports Car Club of America, effective the end of September 2014.

Kummer joined the staff in 2012, tasked primarily with the operational launch of the new SCCA U.S. Majors Tour program.

“My directive from the beginning of this project was to elevate the status of ‘national’ racing, and working together over the past two years I feel we have delivered a product that clearly differentiates our highest level of amateur competition from ‘just racing,’” Kummer said. “Certainly, the most dramatic change was developing a schedule with fewer conflicting events which resulted in increased participation and competition. In addition we’ve increased consistency in event structure/operation and improved recognition of our events. “

“I accept Butch’s resignation with some melancholy, as he and I have worked on the Majors project together since he began with us two years ago,” SCCA President and CEO Lisa Noble said. “We all wish him success as he looks at what the next steps in life bring and I’m sure we will see him continue with the SCCA in some role.”

SCCA will announce a succession plan for U.S. Majors Tour oversight shortly. Kummer will remain on through September in a transitional role.
