Shields Earns Second SCCA Formula Vee Title Following Post Race Tech

(revised October 12, at 10:20 p.m. PDT) MONTEREY, Calif. (October 12, 2014) – Post race technical inspection excluded the three on-track podium finishers on Sunday during the Formula Vee race at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, elevating Rick Shields, of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, to his second career National Championship. Quinn Posner, of Camas, Washington, and Jonathan Weisheit, of Baltimore, Maryland, inherited the second and third positions.

Each of the top three on-track finishers were disqualified following post-race tech. Terran Swanson, of Petaluma, California, Roger Siebenaler, of North Hero, Vermont, and Andrew Whitston, of Neenah, Wisconsin, were all removed from the scoring sheets when their cars were found to be out of compliance.

Shields had spun his No. 77 ARS Inc./Veesport Racing/Autowerks VDF-2 Vee in the final corner of the race while running second and was the fourth to cross the finish line. He had led one official lap on track, then scored his title following the race.

Ron Whitston earned the Sunoco Hard Charger in his No. 5 Subway/Hoosier Protoform P2 after improving 15 positions from his 30th starting spot.
