Tulsa Lands SCCA RallyCross National Championship Site

TOPEKA, Kan. (June 23, 2011) – The Sports Car Club of America announced today that Tulsa Raceway Park (TRP) will host the 2011 RallyCross National Championship, Oct. 7-9. The site was selected after the previously announced site in Greenwood, Neb., was sold earlier this season and became unavailable. The event will be conducted on a hard-packed grass spectator parking lot near the drag strip at the facility. "The RallyCross Board is committed to the steady growth of the sport and believes that the Championship event is a key component in the success of our program,” RallyCross Board Chairman Ken Cashion said. “We are excited to have a central location like Tulsa, and as this is a relatively new region and site, it gives us the opportunity to manage the event as a truly National effort by a group of veterans using a standard set of rules and practices." TRP has been a motorsports fixture in Tulsa for over 40 years and is owned by Dan Guterman, a 30-year SCCA member. The established facility hosts a full stable of amenities, and sits at the crossroads of I-244 and US 169 for easy highway access. Local restaurants, hotels and the Tulsa airport are located nearby the facility. The NEOKLA Region will play host to the event, though many of the operations of the event will be handled by officials from around the country, the RallyCross Board, and the SCCA National Staff in the same fashion as other SCCA National Championship events including the Tire Rack Solo National Championship and the SCCA National Championship Runoffs. “The SCCA RallyCross National Championship has continued to improve over its short life as the RX community learns more with each Championship event,” Howard Duncan, SCCA VP, Rally, Solo and Program Development, said. “The move to TRP and the change in the operational model for this year should see this evolvement continue at an even brisker pace. We look forward to a successful partnership with TRP, the NEOKLA Region, the RallyCross Board, and the RallyCross community in making this the ‘must go event’ the for SCCA RallyCross members.” Tulsa Raceway Park has previously hosted RallyCross events, and the NEOKLA Region will host the 2011 Solo Performance MiDiv RallyCross Championship on site, July 30-31, that will now serve as a warm-up and site visit for competitors making a run at a RallyCross National Championship in October. Registration for the SCCA RallyCross National Championship will open in mid-July. More information on SCCA RallyCross is available at www.scca.com/rally.
