2010 World Challenge Competition Classes Take Shape

TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 13, 2010) €“ After revealing a broader and more cost effective set of class specifications for the 2010 World Challenge Championships, SCCA Pro Racing has issued a preliminary list of eligible cars and class designations. Included in the listings are those cars eligible for the new GTS category.

The GTS class was created to attract vehicles not previously eligible or competitive for World Challenge competition. Many Touring Cars built prior to the 2010 rules package will fit easily into the new GTS class.

As previously announced in December, the Touring Car and Touring Car 2 classes will merge in 2010, forming one Touring Car class that will adhere to the TC2 rule set. Those Touring Car teams who do not wish to move to the GTS class may instead request to have their pre-2010 Touring Car updated to the new rules.

A preliminary list of eligible cars for Touring Car and GTS are available at www.world-challenge.com/competitors/archived.php. The list of eligible GT cars has remained largely unchanged and can also be found on the series Web site. All three lists are capable of growing throughout the season; cars not listed must first request a class assignment and undergo the homologation process before competing.

Current and prospective teams who need any assistance or clarifications regarding class designations and rule packages may contact the SCCA Pro Racing Technical Department at 785-357-7223.

The 2010 SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge season will begin March 26 €“ 28 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., alongside the IZOD Indy Racing Series. The 2010 World Challenge season will air on VERSUS.
