National Solo Season Starts with Dixie National Tour

CECIL, Ga. (Feb. 21, 2008) – The Tire Rack® SCCA National Solo Season is nearly underway as close to 300 competitors head to South Georgia Motorsports Park for the opening round of the Tire Rack Solo National Tour this weekend. Congrats are in order for the Dixie Region, as entries are up 20 percent compared to last year’s inaugural Dixie Tour. Not only has it become the largest Solo event in the Southeast Division, but it has set a new record for entries at a Tour season opener. With mild temperatures predicted and no less than 20 winners from last year’s event returning, this year’s Dixie Tour is on course to be an even bigger hit than last year. Street Touring® S, Super Stock and H Stock are currently the largest classes with 20 drivers apiece for STS and SS and 17 for HS. Three reigning National Champions will be on hand to ramp up the competition as well. Jason Collett has to be the favorite in A Stock, with last year’s Dixie Tour win under his belt in addition to his AS Championship and Rookie of the Year honor. Mike King has similar credentials in Street Touring Xtreme, while Sam Strano will be putting his F Stock crown to the test in Georgia. The 17th National Tour season ushers in a wave of new technology. The Dixie Tour will be the first event to use the new bar code system to identify drivers and the Monday following the event will be a test of the new Tire Rack ProSolo timing system. Competitors are encouraged to stick around for some additional practice runs to assist the Solo team in optimizing the new equipment. The cones haven’t yet been unloaded, but the kickoff to the 2008 Tire Rack National Solo Season is already shaping up to be one of the best yet. Keep checking the Dixie National Tour event page for full results and a weekend recap.
