Tire Rack SCCA National Solo Season Begins In Georgia

TOPEKA, Kan. (March 11, 2010) €“ With a record-breaking field, the 2010 Tire Rack® SCCA Solo National season brushes off its winter dust to begin the season this weekend. A full field of 300 competitors are registered for the Dixie National Tour at South Georgia Motorsports Park, which begins with a Test N Tune on Friday and ends with the customary trophy presentation on Sunday, March 14. For the fourth time in as many years, the National Solo tour begins at South Georgia Motorsports Park. Located three hours south of Atlanta on I75, near the town of Cecil, Ga., South Georgia Motorsports Park is home to a quarter-mile concrete dragstrip and half-mile paved oval speedway with plenty of paddock space for a Solo course. With entries capped at 300 drivers for the Solo event, dozens of drivers have been forced to add their name to a waiting list in the hopes of competing €“ a great sign for the caliber of competition that awaits this season€™s competitors. Last year€™s event was run under near perfect conditions, and this year€™s forecast is equally impressive. While rain could interrupt Friday€™s Test N Tune sessions, the weather for the timed runs on the weekend calls for highs near 70 and partly sunny skies. Not only are total entries up for this weekend€™s event, but the entrants are coming from across the country, anxious to race. Entries are expected from as far west as Colorado and Texas, to points as far north as Minnesota and Massachusetts. The Dixie National Tour event is the first of 10 events on the 2010 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour schedule, including the Solo National Championships at Lincoln Airpark in Lincoln, Neb., September 7-10.
