TOPEKA, Kan. (July 11, 2011) Robert Thorne, from Littleton, Colo., was named as the inaugural SCCA Star Performer during Sundays American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón broadcast from Lime Rock Park on ESPN2. Thorne, a 21-year-old Colorado Region SCCA member, earned the honor after winning the Tire Rack SCCA Lincoln ProSolo on Memorial Day weekend. Driving a 2008 Honda S2000, Thorne topped the Street Touring® R class to move into the bracket elimination round. Thorne worked through the field to capture the Gumout Super Challenge, his first SCCA Tire Rack ProSolo win. Thorne began his racing career in karts before progressing to road racing and turning to Solo competition as an engineering student at the Metropolitan State College of Denver. The SCCA Star Performer is selected from a panel of judges, based on recent efforts in SCCAs national Club Racing, Solo and Rally programs. The recipient will be someone who shined above the rest, epitomizing the passion, effort and success within their performance. As part of its new partnership with the American Le Mans Series, one SCCA member will be honored in each American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón television broadcast. If you know of someone who could be considered as a future SCCA Star Performer based on their performance at a recent event, please submit their name and information about their accomplishment to marketing@scca.com. SCCA members are also encouraged to enter a sweepstakes for a trip for two to Round 8 of the American Le Mans Series at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The trip includes luxury oceanfront hotel accommodations and VIP hospitality provided by Tequila Patrón. Autocon Racing will also host a special opportunity for the sweepstakes winner, but only if they are an SCCA member. Registration and more information is available at www.americanlemans.com/scca.
