Hollis Takes Super Challenge, Point Lead At Packwood

PACKWOOD, Wash. (July 26, 2011) €“ Andy Hollis, from Austin, Texas, took his second Gumout Super Challenge victory of the Tire Rack® SCCA ProSolo season last weekend at the Packwood ProSolo at Hampton Mills to catapult to the top of the season-long point standings. With only the Lincoln ProSolo remaining on the schedule, the Packwood ProSolo at Hampton Mills was the last chance to score points prior to the finale in the season championship that scores the best two of the first three events entered, plus the finale, in the bracket-style elimination rounds. Hollis, the 2010 season long Gumout Super Challenge champion, won the season opener and traveled to the last two ProSolo events, first in Colorado and then in Washington. Hollis opened the weekend by winning the Street Touring class in his 1989 GRM/AST/PowerCurve/Soulspeed/JCAuto Honda Civic Si to earn the 7th seed in the 32-car challenge. In the opening two rounds, Hollis knocked off Michael Lillejord€™s 2006 K-Dogg of Kevtec/Jim€™s Detail Pontiac Solstice and James Paulson€™s 2006 Mazda MX-5, both advancing out of the Street Touring R class. After beating Street Touring X class winner Shane Jensen, driving a 1989 Les Schwab Tires/Bilstein Honda Civic Si, Hollis advanced to the semi-finals to square off against his third STR competitor in four rounds €“ this time, class runner-up Kevin Dietz. With Hollis set to face the same vehicle he defeated in the Gumout Super Challenge opening round, Dietz€™s 2006 Jim€™s Detail/Evolution Schools Pontiac Solstice, Brian Peters and Stephen Hui were each trying to fill the second spot in the final from the opposite bracket. While Peters won the Bump 1 class in his F Stock 2007 Goodyear/ProParts USA/Evolution Ford Mustang, Hui was making a remarkable run through the Super Challenge bracket. Just squeezing into the bracket as the 32nd and final seed in the tournament after finishing third in B Stock, Hui advanced his 2008 Honda S2000 through the field. Peters ended Hui€™s run and fell to Hollis in the final, while Dietz knocked off Hui in the consolation round. In the Ladies Challenge, Barbara LeRoy-Boehm, from San Diego, drove her 2010 Mini Cooper to a victory over Pamela Kannan€™s 2007 Auburn Tire Service/Outlaw Graphics Mazda MX-5. With only the Lincoln ProSolo Finale, August 27-28, remaining on the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo schedule, Hollis leads the Gumout Super Challenge points with 95, followed by Matt McCabe (87), James Wilson (70), Sam Strano (67) and Matt Murray (60). Points available at the finale include 56 for a win, 44 for a runner-up finish, 38 for third, 31 for fourth, and 19, 13, and 6 for elimination in each of the first three rounds of the Challenge.
