Gumout Announces All-Star Shootout at Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals

TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 28, 2011) €“ Gumout and Sports Car Club of America announced today a unique program for the 2011 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships, in which top heat drivers will compete head-to-head in the same car for cash prizes at the conclusion of Championship competition. Ten drivers will be eligible for each of the two shootouts, held Wednesday and Friday on the final course to start its fifth heat. Eligibility will be based on PAX, with the top driver from each heat receiving an invitation. Dubbed the Gumout All-Star Motorhead Shootout, each driver will take two runs in the Gumout Project car€”a Street Touring® prepared Volkswagen Golf. The runs will determine the winner, with the top three drivers taking cash prizes, courtesy of Gumout. Gumout, the Official Performance Chemicals of SCCA, will post a total prize package of $1,750 to the top three of each Gumout All-Star Shootout (Wednesday and Friday), with the winner taking $500, $250 to the runner-up and $125 to third place. €œI€™m really excited to see our SCCA/Gumout car involved in the biggest Solo event of the year,€ Gumout marketing manager Rusty Waples said. €œWhen we kicked off the project car program in the spring, the car transformed from a stock VW Golf to a competitive Solo car with some standard performance modifications. It then was put through the paces at several of the regional competitions, but now the cream of the Solo crop will get behind the wheel and show us all what the driver and car are capable of. It will be a great opportunity to demonstrate just how accessible and cost effective it is to get involved in Solo competition.€ €œThis is a unique way to close out competition,€ SCCA VP of Rally/Solo and Special Programs Howard Duncan said. €œThis takes the €˜fun run€™ concept to another level, with the best performing drivers from the week each taking a shot at some bonus cash. We really thank Gumout for supporting this concept, and it will be a great opportunity for the Gumout project car to be showcased at the event.€ Details of the Gumout All-Star Shootout are as follows: - At the conclusion of each heat competition Wednesday and Friday, times will be indexed based on PAX, and a single Gumout Heat All Star will be identified. - Those 10 individuals will run in Heat order in the competition (1-5) with the lower PAX ranking running first from each course. - PAX is an indexing system that applies a correction factor to overall times based on the class an individual is competing in. The goal of PAX is to remove the class variable, focusing on driver performance. - The final course to reach the fifth heat will include the Gumout All-Star Shootout, with the Shootout being added as a €œclass€ within the competition. Each Gumout Heat All Star will have an opportunity to run, including those in the fifth heat on either course. - Each driver will make two runs, with regular National Championship rules applying - Drivers will not be able to make any adjustments to the car. Tire Pressures will be maintained at the same level for each run. - As this competition is for fun, final results of the Gumout All-Star Shootout are not protestable. The 2011 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships annually attract more than 1,100 competitors to crown the top autocrossers in the country. This year marks the 39th annual running of what has become the single largest motorsports competition in the world, and runs Aug. 30-Sept. 2 at the Lincoln Airpark, Lincoln, Neb.
