SCCA Tire Rack Solo Tour Caps Summer Nationals at Blytheville

LINCOLN, Neb. (June 14, 2012) – The Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour visited it’s second consecutive concrete airport layout, running a rare Sunday/Monday event June 10-11 at the Arkansas Aeroplex for the Blytheville National Tour. The event was part of the four-day Summer Nationals event, which included the Tire Rack ProSolo Series on Friday and Saturday.

The Blytheville stop is annually one of the most eventful on the circuit, with a charity car show held in conjunction with the event and the city putting their efforts into hospitality for the competitors. The site lends to a fast and long course layout, giving designers more options and an ability to put on a fun course for drivers.

Even with a long, fast course, the competition was close.

How close? Street Touring Xtreme, for one, was virtually a dead heat. Michael Kuhn drove the Motion Lab Tuning/MAZDASPEED Mazda RX-8 to just a 0.049-second win over Chris Cline’s Forest Oaks Insurance/TRM BMW 325i in one evenly matched battle.

Nearly as close was the Street Touring Ultra duel between Luke Oxner’s WMMFT Racing Mitsubishi Evo and Josh Luster’s AgileAuto.com/COBB Tuning Subaru STI. After two days of competition, Oxner held a slight 0.134-second advantage for the win. In C Modified, Nick Meyers drove his Van Diemen RF85 to a 0.158-second win over Donald Elzinga’s Renard FF 1600.

The karters got involved in the close battle at Blytheville, where in the Kart Modified class, Jeremiah McClintock’s Nut Pack Racing Renspeed Honda finished just 0.323-second ahead of a dead heat for runner-up between Mike Kline’s Little Chopstix/12oz Racing CRG Honda Road Rebel and Shawn Hill’s Mike Wilson Honda. Tiebreakers gave the second-place trophy to Kline, with Hill finishing third.

Fresh off a Gumout Super Challenge title earlier in the weekend during the Tire Rack ProSolo event, Andy Hollis cruised to a 1.921-second Street Touring FWD win behind the wheel of his GRM/AST/PowerCurveDyno/FTW MAZDA2.

In all, 212 drivers participated in the latter two days of the Summer Nationals, bringing the weekend count of entrants to 366.

The Tire Rack Solo National Tour is back on track for the Northeast National Tour on Fort Devens Airfield in Ayers, Mass., June 16-17. More information on the SCCA Solo program is available at SCCA.com/solo.
