The Diaz Brothers

My brother Carlos and I first hit the banks of Daytona in the late 70's aboard a Ford Pinto we built in our Aunt's house with a Dick Reed (Ford's guru) engine. We raced in the Imsa Champion Spark Plug Challenge Series. Qualified 15th out of 60 cars. On the 5th lap the radiator hose blew on the trioval and that was the end or our weekend. We came back in 1983 and raced in the El Interamericano  3 hour race against the hot shoes of the time (Joe Varde, Dick Starita, Dave Jolly, Amos Johnson, Dennis Shaw, etc) and managed a second behind Ray Korman's BMW. This time we were in a Mazda RX-3. Ever since we have been racing Mazda's on and off. We are really looking forward to the SM race which being a night race and the possibility of rain should be one for the ages. Carlos will be driving the Autotechnik Mazdsa SM #34 and I will be in the Autotechnik Mazda SM #15. Paco Diaz
