SCCA Track Days/Track Night
Many of us have seen the disclaimer at the bottom of TV ads - "professional driver, closed course" and imagined what it's like to drive on track while never leaving our street cars. With SCCA Track Days - also known as Performance Driving Experience (PDX) events, you don’t have to imagine anymore.
SCCA Track Days provide an environment for drivers who simply want to increase their enjoyment of driving their vehicle. For most drivers - all it takes to be a part is your safe street car, a valid drivers license and a helmet.
These Performance Driving Experience events give you a chance to recreationally drive your car on a track the same way you might go to a resort for snow skiing or out for a morning jog, meaning: It's about the experience and not competition.
Why no competition? Because the goal of an SCCA Track Day or Track Night isn't to give a high pressure experience and high stakes of "winning." It is to give you a thrilling experience and stories to share, all from an environment which gives everyone a level they feel comfortable at.
Depending on the SCCA Track event - participants receive some amount of driving instruction which ranges from classroom, trackside observers, in-car coaches or even lead-follow drills. A wide range of topics are discussed and shown, including: following a “driving line”, passing zones, and other general driving techniques. Of course, each driver receives feedback from coaches at the end of each session. First-timers and drivers without much track experience will get more instruction, and eventually can graduate to higher levels of track driving with less oversight.
