GT-2 – Podium Quotes
Jim Goughary, First Place
The cars are a little bit different. We have a bigger engine with more torque, and John’s car is a little bit lighter. I figured we’d get him at the start, I just didn’t know what would happen after the first lap. We had a great week. Everyday in qualifying went well, we were under Wayland’s record from last year in all three sessions, just behind John’s flying lap on Thursday. I knew it was going to be close, and everything held together great. I’ve been to a lot of Runoffs where we’re changing engines and fixing parts for the whole week, and this one just went really well.
I had a little bit of understeer dialed into the car, and the front tires were starting to go off a little bit. When I had a gap on John, I tried to cool it a little bit just save the front tires, and he caught right back up. I think it was two laps from the end, I went off over the curb in the fast esses, just because they had gone away. So it was a tough race.
John Black, Second Place
I caught Jim a couple of times in Turn 3, and there wasn’t anything I couldn’t do really. Last year, I had a mishap on the first lap going into Turn 5 and I thought twice about doing it, but I wasn’t going to end it like that this year. It was pretty much all I had. You’re just trying to wheel the heck out of the car, trying to make it do something that just isn’t there. I didn’t have it under me. I was trying to push the car to something that wasn’t there, and by the finish the tires were gone.
Wayland Joe, Third Place
These guys had too much, and they got away through the first half of the race, and there was no way to catch up. I could see them out there consistently but wasn’t able to reel them in. They had a lot going out there. Third place, still on the podium, its good. I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t sure I was going to run this year, I didn’t run any SCCA races. The car’s been sitting pretty much all year until this last week when we had it out. The car performed like it should, Hats off to these guys, they drove the wheels off it.
