Metzger Succumbs To Injuries From Nelson Ledges

TOPEKA, Kan. (July 6, 2010) – John Metzger, age 55, of Charleston, W.V., was pronounced dead on Tuesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Metzger was involved in an accident on Monday at Nelson Ledges Road Course, in Garrettsville, Ohio, during a Sports Car Club of America-sanctioned event.

An SCCA member for 14 years, Metzger was driving his C Sports Racing car in Monday afternoon’s race. Metzger is survived by his wife, D.J., and son Craig.

“We are deeply saddened to lose John Metzger, a part of our Club Racing community and our SCCA family,” SCCA President and CEO Jeff Dahnert said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Metzger family and John’s friends at this difficult time.”

A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, July 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Snodgrass Funeral Home at 4122 MacCorkle Ave. SW, South Charleston, WV 25309. Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church at 1 Deer Walk Lane, Charleston, WV 24314. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in John Metzger's name to New Hope Animal Rescue, PO Box 461, Scott Depot, WV 25560.
