ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (June 13, 2014) – Friday the 13th was nothing but lucky at the Chicago Region WeatherTech SCCA June Sprints at Road America, rounds five and six of the Northern Conference Majors Tour, with cool, sunny temperatures paving the way as qualifying got underway.
Following a cool morning of practice, six of the nine groups laid down qualifying times to set the grids for Saturday’s 10-lap races. The remaining groups will take their 25-minute session on Saturday morning.
In addition to the Saturday races, beginning at 10:20 a.m., Sunday’s races are 13-laps in length and begin at 8:00 a.m. Both rounds count for full points and contingency prizes.
Live timing and scoring, notes, and the audio PA feed from John Fippin and Eric Mueller will be available for each race at SCCA.com/SCCALive.
Badger Bullies: Six Wisconsin drivers were winners last season at the June Sprints and return this year to defend their titles. Two fall in the prototype categories – Jason Miller, from Sheboygan Falls, won C Sports Racing a year ago and is racing the revamped Prototype 1 race this year, while Elkhart Lake’s Bart Wolf won what was Sports 2000 last year and is in Prototype 2 this year.
Lawrence Loshak, of Grafton, was a double winner a year ago with a Formula 1000 and an H Production win, which he repeated in the Runoffs. This weekend, Loshak shows up on the H Production entry list. Michael Varacins, of Burlington, returns to defend his Formula Vee title, as does Ken Kannard, from East Troy, in F Production.
Michael Mueller, from nearby Plymouth, won twice at the Northern Conference opener in Formula 500 and will defend his June Sprints crown in that class.
Double Trouble: For the first time, the June Sprints is a full doubleheader weekend. Each of the 27 SCCA Runoffs eligible classes, divided into nine run groups, will race a 10-lap race on Saturday, and a 13 lap race on Sunday.
Road America Tickets: The Chicago Region WeatherTech SCCA June Sprints is a full spectator event on the Road America schedule. Ticket information can be found at www.RoadAmerica.com.
