Northern Conference, Touring 1
John Buttermore, of Wixom, Wis.,was able to sum up his Northern Conference Tourin 1 champipnship run very succinctly.
“A Majors championship is special, since it's the first one,” Buttermore said. “Being the first one doing something new has always been exciting for me.”
Buttermore shared his No. 52 Hoosier/Coabotech/StopTech Chevrolet with his dad, throughout the season. Buttermore relished in the challenge of changing the setup back-and-forth between he and his dad. It also allowed mom to get involved in the competition.
Aside from the added setup challenges, one of Buttermore’s standout memories of the season came at Michigan International Speedway.
“The most memorable event was running at MIS, for the first time,” Buttermore said. “One hundred, sixty miles per hour on the high banks was like nothing I have experienced, in a car, before.”
In five races in which he took the green flag, Buttermore scored four wins. His record included back-to-back wins at MIS, followed by single victories at Road America and Gingerman Raceway. He also notched a third-place finish at Gingerman. In addition to his wins, Buttermore had a perfect qualifying record with six pole positions.
Buttermore had some important shout-outs for the people that suppored him all season long.
“Thank you to Matt Carson, the world's most creative, skilled and highly fed mechanic,” Buttermore said. “I had great support from my understanding wife, Kristy. Parts support came from Hoosier Racing Tire, Carbotech Brakes, and StopTech.”
While he qualified for the Runoff this season, Buttermore was unable to attend due to the birth of his son that happened sometime around Sept. 20.
