Mid-States Conference, Touring 3
While Tommy Boileau, of Monument, Colo., had some great finishes throughout the 2013 season, but his double wins at Gateway Motorsports Park stand out as highlights.
“The most memorable part of the season was the finale in St. Louis [Gateway],” Bioleau said. “We were in a tight battle for the championship and we knew we had to go into the weekend on the top of our game. It was a great feeling to sit on the pole and lead flag to flag both days. Giving my dad the victory laps was a great experience!”
There were challenges that Boileau and his team faced throughout the season. The most prominent of those issues was in the suspension of his No. 43 BimmerHaus/BF Goodrich/Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving BMW Z4 M Coupe.
“We ran every race, except for St. Louis, with the stock suspension on the car,” Bioleau said. “This was a challenge in terms of tire wear, as well as just plain speed on the track. I was happy to achieve podium finishes even with the less than ideal setup.
“Once we installed the proper racing suspension on the car, I spent a few days working with my legendary bosses Darren Law and Bob Bondurant. With the help of these two amazing drivers I made some progress. In Bob Bondurant's words, ‘You were fast and we made you quick!’”
Boileau may have shown up at the Mid-States Conference party a little late, but he made his presence know. In six races, he finished no lower than third. Boileau recorded back-to-back wins at Gateway, in addition to second-place finishes at Pikes Peak International Raceway and High Plains Raceway. He also had a third-place finish at High Plain. Bioleau was also a four-time polesitter in 2013.
Like many other racers in the paddock, Boileau could not have achieved his success without the help of some special people.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank my mother and father for being my biggest supporters,” Boileau said. “This season wouldn't have been possible without the help of BFGoodrich Tires, Alpine Motorsports, Tim Hoyles and the two best bosses around, Bob Bondurant and Darren Law. Working as an Instructor for The Bondurant School has taken my driving to a whole new level and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
