Western Conference, Formula Vee
Dennis Andrade, of Brush Prairie, Wash., came out on top of the Western Conference Formula Vee championship after the mano-a-mano title fight came down to a last lap duel with rival Terran Swanson.
Andrade’s D & D Racing Vortech Caracal and Swanson swapped the lead several times in the season finale at Portland International Raceway, with the driver who came out on top taking home the hardware. Swanson went for the lead on the final lap and the pair came together in the festival curves, ending both of their days. When Swanson was deemed at fault by the stewards, the hard-earned and thrilling title went to Andrade.
In six races, Andrade took one win each at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Pacific Raceways and Portland. In the remaining three races of 2013, he finished second at Buttonwillow and Pacific Raceways, and closed the season with the aforementioned third-place finish on the side of PIR.
