Western Conference, Formula F
Stan Townes’ first up-close experience with racing was in 1957, when he worked his first sports car race at Kahuki Air Strip in Hawaii. Since that time he has competed in 539 SCCA races over a 41-year driving career. He has been to the Runoffs 33 times, posting a best finish of third in 1990. He also has 15 Divisional championships and, this year, added the inaugural Western Conference Formula F championship to that list of accomplishments.
Townes scored four wins in six starts during 2013, opening the season with a third-place finish at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. He came back to take the Sunday win at Buttonwillow, scored an additional win at Pacific Raceways and added a pair at Portland International Raceway. Townes sixth finish was a second-place at Pacific Raceways. Additionally, Townes notched one pole at PIR.
Townes has some very important people to thank, without whom his championship would be impossible.
“I want to thank my wife, Jean; Hoosier Tires; Red Line Oil; Ron, at Ron Chuck Engineering; John and Jackie Taylor, at Two Dogg Inc.; and both Dougs and Karen, at Fast Forward,” Townes said.
