Eastern Conference, Touring 1
En route to the 2013 Eastern Conference Touring 1 Championship, George Winkler scored six top-fives in 10 races, including two wins at Road Atlanta and one at Summit Point Motorsports Park.
His season was marred in a qualifying crash at New Jersey Motorsports Park, when his Winkler Automotive Service Center Ford Mustang Boss 302S slid through oil in turn one, destroyed a tire barrier, and crushed the rear of his car. Winkler’s son hauled his older Mustang to the track from his Fredrick, Md., shop. While not quite up to speed, Winkler salvaged a pair of finishes while the 302S was pieced back together for the Runoffs.
He also took home second-place hardware at VIRginia International Raceway, a third-place at Watkins Glen and a fourth-place at Summit Point. Winkler was the polesitter a total of three times, twice at Road Atlanta and once at Summit Point.
