Sports Car Club of America

Program Background

On January 16, 2012, SCCA announced a new, top-level Club Racing program called the “Majors.”

Focused on providing fresh, enhanced opportunities for National-level classes within a geographical racing area, the Majors offer a new format race weekend focused on clustering competition and providing greater value for racers.

The program will run a trial pilot in one segment of the country in 2012, with a planned national launch in 2013.

For 2012, the Midwest, Rocky Mountain and Southwest Divisions will embark in a Majors pilot program, including special opportunities for all classes, highlighted by the Majors Invitational Championship for the top classes based on 2011 participation numbers throughout the combined division “zone.”

These classes include E Production, F Production, Formula 500, Formula F, Formula Mazda, Formula Vee, H Production, Spec Miata, Spec Racer Ford and Super Touring® Under. Each will have six events counting toward the Championship, including the three BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour events (which include all 29 classes) and the three Invitational events, which include only the 10 Invitational classes.

The remaining classes will have additional racing opportunities on other existing events.
