It’s just like James Taylor sang: Oh, Pocono. (We think … You couldn’t just search lyrics back in the 1970s like you can now.)
Wait, maybe it was “Oh, Mexico.” Dang it! But the bit where he sings “I never really been but I'd sure like to go” still applies, because if you’ve never been to the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge at Pocono Raceway in Blakeslee, PA, but you’d like to go, July 18-19, 2026, is your opportunity.
We’re going to lay a few things out: Event registration is now open, and capacity for the event is only 80 cars. Add in the early-bird discount that expires on May 1, and you want to make your plans now.
Tricky, But Fun
Beyond the typical thrill and excitement of a Time Attack Challenge weekend, Pocono’s “Tricky Triangle” offers unique twists. That includes two different layouts – the North/South Option 3 on Saturday, and the North/South Option 2 on Sunday.
Saturday’s layout is a 2.53-mile lap that begins on the start/finish straight, dives into the infield with a left hander just before “oval” Turn 1, then kicks out through the infield with six additional hard corners before heading back onto the triangle for the run into and through “oval” Turn 2. A right-left-right-left series spits you back onto the front straight to complete the lap.
Don’t erase all of that knowledge overnight on Saturday, though. Sunday’s configuration shoots into the infield at the same location, but cuts out many of the infield corners before the run to Turn 2. You’ll be quicker and carrying more speed to triangle Turn 2, adding a different test for the remainder of the lap.
A lap in Sunday’s layout is 2.26 miles.
Chasing Records
This isn’t the first trip around the circuit at Pocono for the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge field.
Jackie Ding’s Unlimited 1 BMW M2 has the overall target to beat with a 1:28.483, set last year on Sunday’s North/South Option 2 configuration. It’s a hefty mark to hit.
Jackie captured last year’s event on his YouTube channel:
All of those lap times can be found on the Time Attack Challenge Records and Personal Bests page.
