Epic Shift: TTN and UTCC Team Up for Fall ’23

It’s been half a decade since the Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty burst onto the scene, setting the bar for competition-based track events for the masses. Boasting participants numbering in the hundreds for the annual event and mixing in two distinct styles of competition over four days, Time Trials Nationals quickly became the definitive event for drivers seeking to conquer their next track challenge – be it against the competition, the clock, or setting a personal best. But while the event has evolved, 2023’s Time Trials Nationals will witness a seismic shift. How seismic? Next year’s event will not only return to its popular fall time slot, but it will also forge a partnership with the Grassroots Motorsports Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge.

Back By Popular Demand

One thing that remains consistent for the Time Trials Nationals is the location. Five years ago, SCCA and NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, KY, agreed that a long-term home was a necessity for the event, and with its central location, world-class facility, and technical road course, NCM Motorsports Park was the perfect partner. There was eventually, however, an unpredictable complication to overcome.

In December 2021, storms ripped through the Bowling Green area with tornados damaging nearly all of the facility’s buildings – but even that didn’t make SCCA or the track question their commitment, with the 2022 Time Trials Nationals taking place in May despite NCM’s buildings being amidst reconstruction.

The SCCA is proud to continue its partnership with NCM Motorsports Park next year and beyond, but rather than the Time Trials Nationals traveling to Kentucky in the spring, the 2023 Time Trials Nationals will take place on Oct. 12-15. Before then, NCM is planning to have its facility largely back in order – in many ways, it will be better than ever.

"The SCCA Time Trials Nationals is one of the most prized events to NCM Motorsports Park's full calendar of events,” said Matt Busby, General Manager of Track Operations at NCM Motorsports Park. “Combining the prestige and excitement of the Time Trials Nationals with the facility additions is going to provide a spectacular participant experience both on and off the track.

“My opinion is that we have hit a sweet spot with the date for 2023, and from a participant standpoint, I am ecstatic to be on track with some of the stiffest competition the country has to offer in time attack. I look forward to seeing the Time Trials Nationals regulars as well as new faces for 2023. Keep an eye on the NCM Motorsports Park's social channels for updates and announcements as our ‘Road to Recovery’ works toward its conclusion.”

A massive addition to the 2023 Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty event will be the Grassroots Motorsports Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge (UTCC), which will take place alongside Time Trials Nationals. The UTCC is an epic event most have only read about in Grassroots Motorsports magazine or online – for 2023, Time Trials Nationals participants will get a front-row seat to the action.

“For more than a decade, our Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge has attracted the fastest time trial cars in the country, so it’s a perfect fit to pair it with the event that attracts the most time trial cars in the country,” said Tom Suddard, Director of Marketing & Digital Assets for Grassroots Motorsports. “We’re excited about this new partnership with the SCCA and can’t wait to see who claims the title of Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car at NCM next fall.”

A Winning Combination

“I’m super excited to announce the move back to the fall for Time Trials Nationals,” said SCCA National Time Trials Manager John Hunter. “Our drivers spoke, and we wanted to make sure they knew we heard them loud and clear. As a fellow driver, I get how important having the right conditions are, and we are confident that the new date will help us see new personal bests for every driver who attends.

“I am also so stoked that our Time Trials family gets to let all of the Grassroots Motorsports Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge drivers in on the fun. I know the two groups will have a blast on and off the track, together.”

Tying the Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty and the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge together is a similar camaraderie that comes from the desire to push the limits in your own unique way.

“When it comes to the 2023 Time Trials Nationals, there’s so much to be excited about,” Hunter added.
