2020 Tire Rack Dixie Champ Tour Fast Notes

In one of few events across the country run under an ever-developing set of guidelines to contain the COVID-19 coronovirus, the Tire Rack SCCA Solo® Dixie Championship Tour ran March 13-15 at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, GA.

The mood of the weekend was light, as most were glad to temporarily set worry aside and live in a comfort zone of autocross.

The B Street battle came down to BMW vs. Supra. David Marcus came out of the gate swinging in his new Toyota Supra on Sunday with a time in the 48s (with Jason Ruggles matching it, but with a cone.) Despite some cone troubles himself, Marcus dropped even more time on his last run, with Ruggles closing the gap on run two but slowing on the last.

Solo Spec Coupe took the world by storm at its introduction, and has continued to fill an event with intrigue no matter who is behind the wheel. In open-class, Mike Lawson continued to show he is a force to be reckoned with, taking the lead on the first run on day one and never relinquishing it. He ended the weekend with a 1.3-second advantage over runner-up Kerry Coughlin. SSCL was all about the dynamic duo of Chris Peterson and Jennifer Bedell, with the two trading positions seemingly with each run. At the end of the weekend, it was Peterson who had the win, with the largest margin between the two all weekend, at 0.233 second at the end of day two.

In C Street, Will Teller held a Saturday lead over Rick Cone to win the class. Cone stood on his first run on day one while dealing with a traction control mishap that hampered his later runs. That left a second day gap that was insurmountable, and despite closing the gap dramatically, Teller held on to the win by 0.260 second.

After some blistering times from competitor Randall Wilcox early on the second day, Matt Glagola had his work cut out for him. He threw it all down on the last run, and with a little help from a cone on Wilcox, Glagola took the SSM win by the smallest margin of victory of the event, a scant 0.011 second.
