Runoffs Early Registration Closes Tuesday Evening

TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 15, 2019) -- Early registration for drivers competing at the 2019 SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® will close Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. Starting Wednesday, Sept. 18, racers registering for this year’s event, which takes place Oct. 8-13 at VIRginia International Raceway, will pay an additional $500 late fee per entry.

Before going through the registration process, competitors are advised to first log into their MotorsportReg account to make sure SCCA member numbers, license expiration date and vehicle profile information are all up to date in the system. This saves time and reduces frustration during the actual registration process.

Drivers will be able to sign up for four Test Days -- taking place Friday, Oct. 4 through Monday, Oct. 7 -- during event registration. If a test day group is sold out, competitors can be added to a waitlist by emailing runoffs@scca.com and should include their name, contact phone number, SCCA membership number, class and test day date preference. Drivers also have an opportunity this year to sign up for Official SCCA Runoffs Coaching Oct 4-7 at VIR with IMSA driver Tom Long and the VIR-based Kaizen Autosport coaching team. Learn more at https://www.scca.com/pages/2019-runoffs-test-day-coaching-services.

Registered competitors may reserve a paddock space via the Runoffs Parking System. Those who are paddocking with a Prep Shop or Multi-Car Team who has already been assigned space should list the team name during registration.

Plenty of free camping is available at VIR for competitors, crew and volunteers. A camping pass will be required, but simply apply for the free pass when registering at MotorsportReg.com. Just check the general camping pass in your registration form to receive a general camping pass at the SCCA Registration counter during Runoffs check-in. Camping spots are assigned on a first-reserved basis. As has been the case the last several years, participants may also camp within their paddock space at no additional charge. More information is contained within the Participant Camping document found at the VIR Runoffs event page. Those seeking information about hotel accommodations should visit https://www.scca.com/pages/vir-hotels.

Runoffs contingency registration is again included in driver registration through MotorsportReg.com. Competitors can simply sign up online for appropriate contingencies, and changes can be made up to September 22 through MotorsportReg.com.  After that, drivers will only be able to adjust contingency selections at VIR at the Contingency Services table located in the classroom on the first floor of the North Tower. A brief rundown of Runoffs contingencies for 2019 can be reviewed at https://www.scca.com/pages/main-contingency.

The 56th running of SCCA’s Runoffs will again crown national champions in 28 separate classes over three days of racing. This will be the first time the Runoffs has visited VIR and conducted the National Championship on the 18-turn, 3.27-mile circuit found along the border of Virginia and North Carolina.

Recognized as one of Car and Driver magazine’s top six road courses in the nation, VIR draws thousands of spectators each year for some of the best road racing in the country. Its uphill Esses and sharp elevation changes not only make it a fan and driver favorite, but VIR has also received international acclaim and rave reviews as one of the most exciting road courses in all of motorsports.

The first official event conducted at VIR during the 1950s was an SCCA race that attracted stars like Carroll Shelby, Carl Haas, Bob Holbert and Augie Pabst. The track became a fixture in SCCA racing and a favorite among racers due to its high-speed straights, challenging turns and dramatic elevation changes.

While racing is the heart of VIR, the expansive 1,300-acre property is so much more. America’s first true “motorsport resort,” it’s an entire vacation destination with a number of onsite hotel and lodging options. Within the property’s rolling hills and miles of lush forest, guests can enjoy unique amenities such as the exclusive Driver’s Club, dining options, spa, karting, skid pad, and even shooting sports. Located near Danville and South Boston, Virginia, the circuit is within 45 minutes of 1,500 hotel rooms and 100 restaurants. Contact VIR at lodge@virnow.com or call (434) 822-7700 x101 for lodging assistance.
