Kudos to Wilmington!

For more than five years now, the Wilmington Air Park in Wilmington, Ohio, has been the site for multiple Sports Car Club of America autocross events.  In 2016 alone, the venue has been home to multiple local events, as well as three SCCA National Solo dates; a Tire Rack Wilmington Championship Tour and two Tire Rack ProSolos.

Use of the Wilmington Air Park was not a slam dunk when the Cincinnati Region first approached site managers.  It was through a lot of work and follow-up that today the Cincinnati Region and the SCCA have a great relationship with the City of Wilmington, Wilmington Air Park and the Clinton County Port Authority.

On Saturday, July 23, during the Tire Rack Wilmington Championship Tour, four people who made it possible to use Wilmington Air Park for automotive competitions were recognized with SCCA Certificates of Appreciation for all they have done.  Those receiving the certificates were: Wilmington Mayor John M. Stanforth, Clinton County Port Authority Executive Director Dan Evers, Clinton County Visitors and Convention Bureau Executive Director Debbie Stamper, and Clinton County Port Authority Associate Director Beth Huber.

When the Cincinnati Region first explored the idea of using Wilmington Air Park, it was Stamper who helped open doors during the original process.  She is a huge supporter of the SCCA and Wilmington Air Park, and understood how much fun people would have visiting the area during autocross competitions.

For their part, Evers and Huber with the Clinton County Visitors and Convention Bureau found ways to “make it happen” for local and national events, removing the word “no” from their vocabulary to get things done.  And Mayor Stanforth, too, was instrumental in making it possible for thousands of SCCA drivers over the past few years to come and enjoy the Wilmington community.

The SCCA would like to sincerely thank Stanforth, Evers, Huber and Stamper for all their help.
