Checkered Flags See New Life

Having a collection of checkered flags is usually a good thing; an indicator that you have won consistently through your racing career. The problem is that there isn’t a whole lot that can be done with the flags after the victory lap. You can hang them on the wall, but there has to be something better. There has to be something cooler.

During the Majors weekend at High Plains Raceway, we came across the coolest solution we’ve seen yet. Jim Wheeler has won the Mid-States Majors Championship in his American Sedan Pontiac Firebird since the series inception and is poised to repeat this year. With all of those Majors wins, he has a sizable collection of the flags.

His sister, Cathy Wilson, stepped in to help him out. She took eight of his Majors flags and a Super Sweep flag from 2012 to create a checkered flag quilt. We think it turned out amazing and want to know if she’s taking orders!
